Vancouver Weekend Itinerary + Hotels

Tokyo travel guide

Vancouver is one of Canada's most beautiful cities, combining ocean, mountains, and urban culture into a compact, walkable package. Here's how to make the most of a weekend visit — from iconic attractions to hidden gems.

Day 1 Morning: Start with Stanley Park — rent a bike and ride the 10km seawall loop with stunning views of the North Shore mountains, Lions Gate Bridge, and English Bay. Stop at the totem poles and visit the Vancouver Aquarium if you have kids.

Day 1 Afternoon: Head to Granville Island via the adorable Aquabus ferry. Explore the public market for artisan foods, local crafts, and fresh seafood. Try the Lee's Donuts (a local legend) and pick up some BC wines or craft beer from the island's microbreweries.

Day 1 Evening: Walk along the seawall to English Bay Beach for a spectacular sunset. Then head to Davie Street or Denman Street for dinner — Guu Izakaya for Japanese tapas or Espana for Spanish cuisine are local favorites.

Day 2 Morning: Explore Gastown, Vancouver's oldest neighborhood. See the iconic Steam Clock, browse indie boutiques, and grab brunch at Jam Café (expect a line — it's worth it) or Belgard Kitchen in the Railtown district.

Day 2 Afternoon: Choose your adventure — take the Sea-to-Sky Gondola in Squamish for mountain-top views and suspension bridge walks, or stay closer with the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain's Skyride. Both offer breathtaking Pacific Northwest scenery.

Day 2 Evening: End your trip in Yaletown, a converted warehouse district with upscale restaurants and cocktail bars. Blue Water Cafe is one of Vancouver's best seafood restaurants, and The Keg on the waterfront offers great views with your steak dinner.

For hotels, downtown Vancouver offers the best location. The Fairmont Pacific Rim is top-tier luxury with a rooftop pool, while the YWCA Hotel offers clean, budget-friendly rooms steps from everything. The Sylvia Hotel in the West End is a charming mid-range option right on English Bay.

Getting around Vancouver is easy without a car. The SkyTrain connects the airport to downtown in 25 minutes, buses are frequent, and the city is very bikeable with dedicated lanes. Ride-sharing (Uber/Lyft) is available, and water taxis add a scenic twist to transit.

Best time to visit: June–September for warm weather (20–25°C) and outdoor activities including kayaking, hiking, and beach days. Shoulder months (May, October) offer lower hotel rates with mild temperatures. Winter (November–March) brings rain but also ski season at nearby Whistler — just 90 minutes north.
